I'm not sure how thick the ice is on most lakes in Otter Tail Country, and I'm sure there are still a few people walking out and ice fishing on them, but I'm not one of them.
Don't get me wrong - I would love to be fishing right now, but I'm a bit too big of a baby to see what Minnesota lake water feels like in early April. Like I said - I'm sure it's safe, but with my luck I'd find the weakest patch of ice and have a nice swim.
We're just over a month away from walleye, sauger, and northern pike fishing opener (when is it? May 14th, 2011!) and I suppose I can wait. It's just tough to sit through the waiting period - no snowmobiling, skiing of any type (water, downhill, cross country), snowshoeing, boating...it sounds like this is a bad time for Otter Tail Country, but that's just because I'm moping about no fishing.
Feel free to take a trip through Otter Tail County and the surrounding areas this Spring - it's beautiful and a great way to spend some time before Minnesota fishing opener!
